Washoku Warriors – Challenge 2 – Wafu Gyoza, Rice and Edamame

Washoku Warriors – Challenge 2 – Wafu Gyoza, Rice and Edamame

When I did the first challenge, I already had set my eyes on the recipe for the pork and wakame dumplings, and was planning on making them soon – La Fuji Mama must have read my mind when she chose the recipes for the second Washoku Warriors challenge! The Washoku Warriors group cooks its way through Washoku: Recipes from the Japanese Home Kitchen by Elizabeth Andoh, a fabulous book on traditional Japanese home-style cooking. I knew I was in for a hard time, though – cooking rice and edamame isn’t that hard. Wrapping gyoza, on the other hand… I am kind of decorationally challenged, and I was sure they could never ever look as professional as those La Fuji Mama wraps. Washoku Warriors – Challenge 1 – San Shoku Domburi

Washoku Warriors – Challenge 1 – San Shoku Domburi

La Fuji Mama (how can you not love Japanese food with a blog of this name) came up with the wonderful idea to cook her way through Washoku: Recipes from the Japanese Home Kitchen by Elizabeth Andoh. The idea: participants prepare 1 or 2 recipes from the book per month, which are chosen at the beginning of the month. The Washoku Warriors work on these...

Meena, who is Hooked on Heat, has started an enticing new event – a book club for cooks. The May event features the book Serving Crazy with Curry by Amulya Malladi. The rules: read the book, comment on the book, cook something from or inspired by the book and post about it. I can hardly resist the idea of an online book club, although my to-read book pile is mountain high, and in combination with Indian food resistance was futile… I logged on to Abebooks, ordered a copy, read it in one sitting and decided to try the Cajun Prawn Biriyani The book Amulya Malladi is an Indian who studied and worked in the US before relocating to the tranquiliy of a Danish island wih her husband and sons....

Rice Bread

Rice Bread

While surfing the web, I found a recipe for Rice Bread in the Cooking Light archives, which I have tried a couple of days ago. The recipe makes 2 small loaves which are baked in a loaf pan. The result is a very light and fluffy white yeast bread. It is even lighter than regular white bread. There is a slight hint of rice aroma, but it doesn’t taste like rice at all. My hubby noted that the bread is a little short on salt, so if you try it, add some more salt.
